"IF you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."
African Proverb
Voyage has created a few different ways to build strong, life-giving relationships with others that will help us "go far." These avenues are known as Growth Groups, Voyage classes and Discipleship Pathway . These groups are designed to help us fulfill our core practices of UP (connecting with God), IN (connecting with each other), and fueling us towards living OUT the love (connecting with the community).
Growth groups
The purpose of a Growth Group is to help you take your next step with God by joining a crew
committed to traveling the same direction. While each group has its unique focus, all are
focused on helping you deepen your connection with God and with one another, so that more
of Christ is seen in you on the voyage of life.
voyage classes
Voyage Classes are held at various times throughout the year to focus on growing in a specific area of interest. These courses normally run a few weeks in which Voyagers can be equipped to better serve the kingdom. Some class examples include Network Spiritual gifts, Loving well, and Financial Peace University. These courses will be offered at various times thought the year.
Discipleship Pathway
Voyage's definition of a disciple is "a learner who loves God, loves people, and brings Jesus' way of life into this world." The goal of the Discipleship Pathway is for people to look more like Jesus at the end of the process than they did when they started the process. Discipleship Pathway right now meets every other week on Friday nights.
growth groups
The Christian life is not a solo voyage. God’s intention is for us to be crew-mates, helping one another reach a destination that God has made clear in His Word. It requires getting our compass aligned with His. That will mean course corrections and change. We believe that real change happens in real community. It happens by intention, not by chance. Growth Groups are for those who do not want to settle for an occasional pleasure cruise, but rather for those who desire the adventure God has for them. We know that this comes about only as we learn to tune into the Spirit of God, share the stories of the soul and relate like the Trinity. None of us have arrived. We want to be accepted right where we are, experience the safety of grace, and join with those who can envision where we could be, empowered by truth and strengthened in hope.
Starting Point (8 Weeks)
If you are new to Voyage or new to a group experience, this is the place to get your feet wet. This group will help you discern your next step in growing your relationship with God. A new class is starting on September 11, 2024 and meets for 8 weeks. Contact Bill and Marlita.
empowering women
Meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 6:15 to 8:00 p.m. in the Prayer Room. Their goal is “to see spiritually alive and empowered women loving God and serving the community.” To connect call Penny or Kris.
deeper waters
We gather on alternate Tuesdays of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the homes of participants who volunteer to host. This group dives into God’s Word through the Bible Project or similar studies. Their mission, based on Luke 5:4, is “To Live the Love by trusting God and supporting one another, expecting that as we push out into deeper water (spiritual dependence and growth) and reach out to others, God will fill our nets.”
Daytime growth group
This group launches every Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Superior Room. Participants prepare and share a study from the Bible, pray for one another, the church and community. They care well for one another as well as do service projects in the community. Contact Rosemary for more information.
family Growth group
Gathers 1st & 3rd Sundays from 5:30-7:00 in the Superior Room, off the gym, and the 2nd Sunday after Sunday morning service for fellowship. A place for the entire family to grow to be more like Jesus and connect as families. Baby sitters are provided. We desire to see people empowered to live out the mission of loving up, in and out as they help one another live out the love of Christ. Join any time. Contact Brian or Karen.
UNIFIED DISCIPLESHIP
Meets the 1st and 3rd Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. in the Michigan Room. Our mission is to Live the Love through Prayer-generated dialogue and actions that confront division, promote reconciliation, advocate for justice, and strive for unified diversity. This year, we will be discussing a video series called: “In Church as it is in Heaven.” Leaders: Larry & Jill.
New! Interracial couples
This group is intended for couples in an interracial relationship to have a safe place to build a Biblical foundation for community and connection. The goal is to see that not only are such relationships to be tolerated in the church, but to be celebrated and encouraged in their unique challenges in today’s society. Meets in the Superior Room, the 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm. Contact Pastor Glenn.
New! Campus Connections
Campus Connections will live UP in Love through monthly Word studies, IN in Love by spending time getting to know and care for each other, and OUT in Love by reaching out to our campus neighbors to encourage students and group members in their next steps with God. Meeting times and place will be determined by the group. Contact Rory or Polly.
voyage classes
Voyage Classes are seasonal groups that meet for a designated amount of time unlike Growth Groups which are contious.
